Intergenerational turnover is a process when a company owner wants or needs to end or limit his/her active involvement in the company and devote more time to other activities or relaxation. As part of the handover of a family business, the owner will usually consider the possibility of involving a family member or a suitable candidate from the management team whom he sees as his successor. If he or she decides to take this step, the next decision-making process is whether to hand over the business to the chosen successor as a whole or to run it as a family holding company. The firm is likely to accumulate certain assets during its lifetime, the value of which must be adequately protected during the handover and the risks of loss of value eliminated.
